May is National Wildfire Awareness month!!
It’s time to start focusing on the upcoming fire season (it’s always fire season) and ways you can protect your home and our community!
Home Hardening
Your Oak Park Fire Safe Council has some new and exciting additions to our website that you may find very useful!
Under the Resources tab you will find the new CAL FIRE’s Interactive Home Hardening Guide. This tool helps you determine your home’s potential vulnerabilities to wildfire.
You will also find a Materials and Installers page with sites to check out if you’d like help making your home more fire resilient. These third-party vendors are not recommendations, we are just providing a resource for you to do your own research and find what will work best for your specific needs.

Russell Keith Rawls
We are very happy and excited to announce the recent onboarding of another home hardening assessor, Russell Keith Rawls.
Russell is a graduate of Amherst College. He served for over 33 years as a Firefighter/Paramedic and Fire Inspector. During the pandemic, he worked for Ventura Public Health as a Paramedic, vaccinating people to combat the CoronaVirus.
Oak Park and Ventura County are so lucky to have Russell joining us as a Home Hardening Assessor!
Welcome Russell!
Home Assessments
We encourage you to sign up for a home hardening assessment on our website to take advantage of this free service. We do not report to any government agency and you are NOT required to follow any of the recommendations. At the very least, it’s a good way to become educated about the potential dangers you and your home may currently be exposed to.

Please record your Firewise Activities
To ensure your Firewise Community fulfills its annual commitment and continues to be recognized as a Firewise Community, you must submit your Firewise Activities. You can submit the activities after you complete them or submit them once a month, whichever is easier for you. The quick and easy Firewise Activities submission form is found on our website under the Firewise tab. Please let us know about any Firewise-related structural and garden work completed, both the hours and/or dollars spent—and this includes paying your gardener. Your small contribution makes a big difference in protecting and sustaining your Firewise community!
