Welcome to the Mae Boyar East Firewise Community!
If your house is within this area, congratulations! You are now within the Mae Boyar East Firewise Community, certified by the National Fire Protection Association.
This means that some of your neighbors have already taken measures to lower the risk of wildfire spreading in the immediate area, and we have an ongoing plan to improve our neighborhood’s and Oak Park’s fire resiliency. Our aim is to provide information and to assist with lowering the risk of individual homes catching on fire. We want no Oak Park homes to burn in the next firestorm.
We got here by applying through the National Fire Prevention Association. The application involved creating a community plan, and recording work done to lower the fire risk (such as by trimming trees and otherwise reducing vegetation, and by making small structural changes to our houses).
Being a Firewise Community also means that we will have access to grant money that can assist us with our mission. Some insurance companies even offer discounts for being part of a Firewise Community!
The Firewise community needs to hold an annual educational outreach meeting. We will hold this meeting on Zoom at 10 am on Saturday, 2/1/2025. Please email one of the contacts below to get the meeting ID and password. Join us to learn more about this community and about hardening your house for fire safety.
Your participation is entirely voluntary. We are not a government agency; we cannot tax you, enforce any laws against you or your neighbors, nor require you to do anything that you do not want to do. We seek to organize collective action to deal with the community-wide issue of fire safety.
