The Goats Were Back!
Your Oak Park Fire Safe Council represented well at the Ventura County Supervisor’s Office yearly community event at Fire Station 36 on October 25th. The goats were back along with the newly added library. Triunfo Water District and Athens Waste Disposal were there with their equipment, along with CERT, the local police and of course our local fire department who invited the kids to explore the fire trucks and the fire station.
A few of us from the OPFSC had the opportunity to speak directly with Supervisor Gorell about our concern regarding the need for brush clearance in creek beds in our community. We continue addressing this very important matter. Lastly, we are a small but mighty group of Oak Park residents who felt compelled to act after the devastating Woolsey Fire. We are always looking for enthusiastic folks to join our efforts. There is so much more to be done. If you are interested in what we’re doing and want to help, reach out to John at john.f@opfsc.org
With the 7th year anniversary of the Woolsey fire fast approaching some of us may be feeling on edge about what November may bring. Others of us may have gotten complacent over the years, especially when the wind is calm and the air is cool. Additionally, the Palisades and Eaton fires from January of this year and the recently released movie, The Lost Bus, based on the true story of a bus driver who evacuates 22 kids and a teacher during the Camp Fire in Paradise reminds us to stay vigilant.
