Education=Action.
Your Oak Park Fire Safe Council continues to work toward educating our community on how best to prepare for wildfires and protect our homes.
Many of you stopped by our table at the Concert in the Park event on July 12th in Oak Park where we had the chance to speak with folks about the importance of home hardening. Wetline “Wildfire” Defense joined us there and brought their home ember prevention venting samples. They also offer many other home fire safety products.
We continue to pursue grants and partner with Rancho Simi and Ventura County Regional for local debris clearance projects. Additionally, Ventura County Regional provides ongoing support of the OPFSC with another grant for $10,000 which will be partially used to support the mapping of Oak Park. We have hired the Center for Geospatial Science and Technology (CGST) which is an interdisciplinary research center housed in the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences at California State University, Northridge. CGST focuses on applications, education, and innovative solutions to real world problems using Geographic Information Systems (GIS). Once completed this revised map will be available at www.opfsc.org.
As always, we encourage you to go to our website and sign up for a home hardening assessment sponsored by the generous donation of an anonymous Oak Park resident. There is also a lot of good information and interesting and helpful resource links on the website.
